Location: West Yorkshire, East Midlands, Hybrid / Remote. Can comprise a mixture of office / remote working, provided you are available to support the wider team and clients.

Salary in the range of £35,000 to £60,000 depending upon skills, location and experience

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior or Principal Geotechnical Consultant to join our team with a focus on property redevelopment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in geotechnical engineering, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record in leading complex property redevelopment and ground engineering projects. This role involves providing technical leadership, strategic direction and innovative solutions to support our clients’ needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide expert geotechnical consultation and oversight for geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects, ensuring high-quality technical deliverables.
    • Conduct and oversee geotechnical investigations, site assessments, soil and rock testing and analysis for foundation and substructures, slope stability, retaining walls and ground improvement design.
    • Develop and review geotechnical reports, recommendations and design specifications.
  • Project Management
    • Lead and manage multiple geotechnical projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets and quality standards.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, environmental scientists and construction managers, to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Prepare project proposals, cost estimates and schedules.
  • Client Engagement
    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing clear communication, addressing concerns and managing expectations.
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for additional services and business growth.
    • Present findings, recommendations and project updates to clients and stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure all projects comply with relevant local and national regulations and industry standards.
    • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practises, integrating them into project planning and execution.
  • Team Development
    • Mentor and develop junior geotechnical staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge within the team.
    • Promote a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related Geoscience field. A graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is beneficial.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering with a focus on property redevelopment projects.
    • Proven experience in leading and managing large scale geotechnical projects.
  • Licences and Certifications
    • Chartered Engineer / Geologist (CEng/CGeol) status with a relevant institution (e.g. ICE, Geological Society) or demonstratable evidence you are working towards this.
    • Relevant certifications (e.g. RoGEP, MICE) are a plus.
  • Technical skills
    • Proficiency in geotechnical software for the assessment of slope stability, retaining walls and settlement / ground movement.
    • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and ground improvement techniques.
    • Experience with geotechnical field instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Soft Skills
    • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
